Vineyard
Domaine Roquefeuille lies at Montady in the Hérault, some ten kilometres from Béziers, in one of the most storied corners of the Languedoc. The vines grow in clay and limestone soils between the Canal du Midi and the ancient Oppidum d'Ensérune, looking out over the Étang de Montady, a medieval lagoon drained in the thirteenth century whose fields still radiate outwards like the rays of a sun. The Mantion family has farmed here since 1984, and the estate remains a true farm in the older sense, producing olive and sunflower oils and citrus liqueurs alongside the wines. The vineyard enjoys an ideal Mediterranean climate and is worked under culture raisonnée, a reasoned approach that limits intervention in the vineyard, within a wider commitment to sustainable development. The wines are bottled as IGP Coteaux d'Ensérune.
Winemaking
Alexandre Mantion took over the family estate in 2023 and vinified his first vintage that same year, giving each cuvée the name of a Greek sun deity: Theia the goddess of light, Eos the dawn, Perseis the beloved of the sun god Helios, whose shape is stamped into the land itself. The cellar work is precise and gentle. The whites are pressed slowly and softly so that only clean, fruity juice is kept, then fermented cool in tank, while the top white Théia ferments and ages in 400 litre barrels on its stirred lees. The reds ferment at low temperature with daily pumping over, complete their malolactic fermentation under the marc, and are bottled unfined. Production is tiny, between one and four thousand bottles per cuvée, and the aim is the same across the range: fruit, finesse and freshness that speak of this sun-marked terroir.
